OPENING: “Baubles, Bangles, and Beads” exhibition of professional and student work to benefit Glassroots

To benefit Newark, New Jersey-based non-profit Glassroots, the Kathryn Markel Fine Arts gallery in Bridgehampton, Massachusetts, is holding a special event this evening showcasing work by established jewelry artists as well as young artists of Glassroots. Focused on training in business as well as art, The New Jersey organization has provided the young artists opportunities to sell their own work through its Business and Entrepreneurship Program, which conducts an annual trade fair competition. This new exhibition, entitled “Baubles, Bangles, and Beads,” will be the program participants’ first chance to sell outside the Newark area, according to Glassroots’ chief operating officer Kate Witzig.

Eponymous gallery owner Kathryn Markel told the Hot Sheet the exhibition was the suggestion of fellow Glassroots board member and artist Jane Bruce, who also helped to recruit other established artists, who include Dena Pengas, Erica Rosenfeld,  Deborah Adler, and Laurie Korowitz-Coutu. Work by Glassroots staff members Kate Dowd and Jason Minami will also be included. All profits of the event will go to Glassroots.
