The mathematical constant of Pi and the musical composition “Bolero” by Ravel both achieve pure expression through complicated structure, according to Jeannet Iskandar. The same can be said about about this Danish artist’s deceptively intricate glass assemblages that from a distance look like simple forms. It’s not until you get close up you understand their complexity.

This Saturday from 4 PM – 7 PM, Iskandar will attend an opening for her first solo exhibition in the U.S. at Traver Gallery’s Tacoma location. Titled “Between Fragment and Whole,” the exhibition will showcase Iskandar’s subtle explorations of rhythm, repetition, and three-dimensionality. As she writes in her artist’s statement: “Rather than applying the patterns to a shape, I want the shape to be the structure/pattern.”
